Job: Project Supervisor

Company: Graham Construction

16 years in the industry

What is your role behind Meadow Ridge School?

Kevin was one of the first trades people on the site of Meadow Ridge School; when he initially stepped on the land, it was covered in deep snow.  He couldn’t get his truck to site and had to walk in so one of his first jobs was to get the snow removed so they could secure the site with fencing.  Kevin also moved to Okotoks once he found out he was going to supervise the build of the school.

As the Project Supervisor, his role behind Meadow Ridge is to supervise the day-to-day construction activities and he will be on site from the beginning of construction until the very end.  Some of his duties are to:

  1. organize the day to day activities happening on the construction site
  2. organize all of the trades people to make sure they finish on time
  3. oversee on-site safety
  4. provide safety orientation to any person coming on site

What is the best part of your job?

The best part is that it changes by the hour.  Every day is something new and something challenging.  He said as a Project Supervisor, he has to be able to keep his cool because things do not always work out the way they are supposed to.  Kevin has also been involved in other projects such as: Elevation Place in Canmore; Princeton Grand, a 20 story tower in Calgary, and road ways throughout the city.

What was your favorite subject in school?

His favorite subject in school was Shop.  It helped him get into what he does now.  At first he took Engineering Drafting Design at SAIT but started his carpentry apprenticeship at 30 years old.

What are your hopes for the students who will walk through the halls of Meadow Ridge?

Have patience and do not give up.  Learn as much as you can.  Ask lots of questions.  If you stumble, whether in the playground or with marks, just keep going.  Show up every day to school so you can show up every day to work.  If you show up every day, good things will happen.
